Dear Ben,
As per your symptoms, bumps which you were mentioning may be lipomas.
Lipoma is abnormal accumulation of fat. It is mostly benign condition. It can occur any where on the body. As u asked about amelanotic melanoma the difference between these 2 can be felt while examining bump. Lipoma will be painless.
Don't get panic. As you had already taken an appointment with a skin specialist, you will be clarified. There is a test by name FNAB(fine needle aspiration biopsy) by which the pathologist will take small bit of swelling for examination under microscope. This will give you an idea regarding the disease.
If in FNAB if the diagnosis is lipoma, just removal of lipoma will be done giving local anesthesia. If the FNAB gives amelanotic melanoma as you are having suspicion of,then you should get a PET scan to know about the spread of it. Chemotherapy should be taken if it's amelanotic melanoma.
